Together, we can balance our carbon footprints – with renewable natural gas

Ever wondered what happens to water waste once it leaves your home? It ends up in water resource recovery facilities where it is cleaned and purified, then recycled into our non-drinking waterways.

DTE Energy partnered with the Grand Rapids Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) to recover natural gas during the waste decomposition process. The WRFF isn’t far – just outside of downtown Grand Rapids off I-96 south of you!

Renewable natural gas (RNG) is created from decomposing waste, which is then cleaned up and added back to the natural gas energy grid. This gas was typically burned off before it was converted to RNG, but now it is repurposed, recycled and reused.

Enrolling in CleanVision Natural Gas Balance supports the development of renewable natural gas projects like this one near you, as well as others throughout Michigan.

CleanVision Natural Gas Balance gives you an easy and affordable way to address your greenhouse gas emissions. For a small monthly fee, between $4-$16, you can balance 25% to 100% of an average home’s natural gas emissions while contributing to a more sustainable future.

When you enroll in Natural Gas Balance, you are:

  • Addressing emissions from natural gas usage in heating, water heaters, cooking and other home uses – without adjusting your energy usage.
  • Pioneering the use and development of renewable natural gas to reduce traditional methane greenhouse gases escaping into the atmosphere.
  • Protecting Michigan’s mature trees that act as natural carbon scrubbers in the Upper Peninsula.
