Deep Water Port Attracts Cruise Ships & High Speed Ferry

Cruise Ship passengers call Muskegon one of their favorite ports on the Great Lakes!  The Muskegon Port is the eastern host on Lake Michigan for the Lake Express High-Speed Ferry which makes daily trips between Michigan and Wisconsin during tourism season. This beautiful freshwater harbor also hosts cruise ships, The Pearl Mist, Victory Cruise Lines, and Le Champlain.

Muskegon’s award-winning clean, freshwater expansive beaches attract visitors from all over the world! Passengers enjoy the many arts and cultural excursions. They also appreciate the relaxed historic downtown.

Docking Facilities Information

Muskegon County offers docking facilities providing a variety of shipping, logistics support, storage, and ship repair services . The beautiful Heritage Landing has been reserved for cruise ships, private yachts and other large passenger vessels.  The landing has scenic vistas in a park like setting providing a relaxing environment for passengers to enjoy. Muskegon Lake is the largest natural deep-water port in West Michigan. The United States Army Corps of Engineers provides funding for dredging of the Muskegon Lake Channel to provide year-round access to port facilities.
Convenient options are available to deliver and receive goods, packages or special visitors at Heritage Landing.   The Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce provide a staffed welcome tent at dockside.
The Great Lakes is also serviced by the Lake Express Ferry, a high-speed ship carrying passengers and vehicles across Lake Michigan from Milwaukee to Muskegon in just 2.5 hours, offering two runs every day during its May-October season. In addition to our commercial port facilities, 12 recreational marinas operate on Muskegon Lake and over 20 charter fishing operations call Muskegon Lake home. White Lake, about 7.5 nm north of the Muskegon Lake Channel, has 8 recreational marinas and 12 charter fishing operators.  A scenic cruise ship, the Port City Princess, offers leisure and dinner cruises on Muskegon Lake and Lake Michigan from its berth on Muskegon Lake.

Get Involved – Volunteer!

There is always a need for volunteers on cruise ship days to help welcome the passengers to our wonderful city. Possible volunteer jobs include:

 

  • Trolley Tour Guide
  • Working at the Welcome Tent
  • Stationed at a museum to greet passengers
  • Assisting with one the excursions for the passengers
