MUSKEGON, MI- Muskegon High School and Muskegon 4-H are excited to announce they are partnering together to bring Éxito Educativo to Muskegon High School students and family. Éxito Educativo is a bilingual, bicultural, partnership-based program designed by MI ALMA that illuminates the pathways to college among Latino families. This successful after-school program brings Latino parents and their students in high school together to learn about the requirements for high school graduation financial sources of support, and the college enrollment process.
The program consists of six (6) two-hour long modules. Participants learn about the benefits of a college education, the importance of positive communications among family members and with school personnel and peers. They also learn about the structure of U.S. higher education, the sources of financial aid, the importance of financial planning, and the college application and admissions process. For more information on this program, people can visit the program’s website at http://www.mi-alma.org/exito-educativo/.

An orientation session is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 8th at 6pm via Zoom for parents and students to learn more about the program. Latinx students in 10th and 11th grade are encouraged to sign up with Jackie Nunez, Muskegon High School ESL Instructor at 231-720-2910 or jnunez@mpsk12.net. Both the parent(s) and the student(s) will be required to attend all six sessions. The virtual program dates are Feb. 22, March 8, March 22, April 12, April 19, and May 3 and will be from 6 PM to 8 PM via Zoom.

The program facilitators are seeking giveaways from local businesses and organizations. Giveaways will be used as incentives for students to complete program activities and their parent/guardians to attend the meetings. Examples of contributions could be school/office supplies, gift cards, clothing attire, etc. Donation inquiries should be sent to Tonya Pell at pelltony@msu.edu.
