“Sweet” Designs Make Students Winners In Hair Show.

“Candyland Pop” was the theme of this year’s hair show hosted by Nuvo College of Cosmetology. The event took place March 14, 2019, at the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center (MACTC) and featured Cosmetology students from the MACTC as well as Nuvo. A total of 79 students, 52 from the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center, participated.
Hair show entries were presented on live models that students spent the afternoon preparing. Each model walked a runway to show off the stylist’s hair, makeup, nails, and overall look. Winners were selected by a panel of judges. For a $1 donation, guests could choose their favorite for the popular vote.
First place in the judge’s category went to Hailey Schaeffer (Nuvo College). Hailey attended the Cosmetology program as a MACTC student her senior year at Orchard View High School and is finishing her studies at Nuvo. Second place was awarded to Crystal Sherrell (Nuvo College). MACTC student Artavia Williams (Muskegon) placed third.
“I just want to thank God for blessing me with this talent, my model Avionna Blake, and my mother for her support,” shared Artavia.
In the popular vote, MACTC students Destany Yhamel-Mackay (Ravenna) and Haylee Martin (Orchard View) received first and second place respectively. Third place went to Kennedi Ogle (Nuvo College). Kennedi attended the Cosmetology program as a MACTC student her senior year and will graduate from Nuvo in May 2019.
“This was my first show,” shared Crystal, “I was very impressed with the overall experience. We all had a wonderful time, and we appreciate Nuvo and the Career Tech Center giving us the opportunity to share our skills.”
All proceeds from the show were donated to Kids’ Food Basket of Muskegon.
