Selena Gomez, Betty Boop, and the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo take top spots at local hair show
MUSKEGON, MI: “Lights, camera, action,” was the theme behind this year’s hair show put on by Nuvo College of Cosmetology. The event took place Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center (MACTC) and featured Cosmetology students from the MACTC as well at Nuvo. Celebrity model look-alikes of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Selena Gomez, and Betty Boop were the judges’ top picks. A total of 55 students, 41 from the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center, participated.
Hair show entries are presented on live models that students spent the afternoon preparing. Each model walked a catwalk to show off the stylist’s creation. Participants were judged on four categories: hair, makeup, nails, and overall look. Winners were selected by a panel of judges. For a $1 donation, guests could choose their favorite for the popular vote.
The winning designs, chosen by the judges, were Carolyn Skuse (Ravenna) for her model of Lisbeth Salander from, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This is the second year in a row Carolyn has been awarded first place by the judges. Second place went to Nuvo student Xochitl Gutierrez for her interpretation of Selena Gomez. Third place went to Haylee Martin (Orchard View) for her Betty Boop model.
In the popular vote, guests awarded first place to Kennedi Ogle (Mona Shores) with her model of American gymnast Jordyn Wieber. Second place went to Haylee Martin with Betty Boop. Skylar Nelson (Orchard View) placed third with her version of actress Veronica Lake.
All proceeds from the show were donated to the Child Abuse Council of Muskegon.
