Proceeds benefit Hackley Public Library

Bling Thing will roll out the red carpet at a new venue on Friday, February 7, and Saturday, February 8, at the Polish Falcon, 1014 W. Hackley Ave., Muskegon. This highly anticipated sale of jewelry and accessories is a fundraiser for Friends of Hackley Public Library.

This year, the event will feature dresses donated by Emmy Award-winning media entrepreneur Tanya Hart. Ms. Hart is no stranger to the red carpet, having garnered eight Emmy nominations – winning four – and receiving a Lifetime Achievement Gold Circle Award from the National Television Academy. A Muskegon native and graduate of Orchard View High School, Hart presented the Hackley Distinguished Lecture last spring. After learning about Bling Thing as a major fundraising event for Friends, she generously donated several of the gowns she wore at award ceremonies.

Friday evening’s sale runs from 5 to 8 p.m., with a $15 donation requested at the door and complimentary wine and chocolates. Saturday’s sale is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., with free entry. The doors close briefly at noon, and when they re-open, most merchandise is half off.

Shoppers can expect amazing deals on a large selection of costume and fine jewelry. An exclusive Bodacious Boutique will include Tanya’s dresses, along with designer clothing and accessories from additional significant donations. Brands include clothing by St. John, Emilio Pucci, and Tanja Pignatelli, boots by Vero Cuoio and Maison Martin Margiela, and much more!
There will also be our traditional boutique area with purses, boots, scarves and lots of fun things. Due to the recent sale of the venue used the last couple of years, the event moved to the Polish Falcon, 1014 W. Hackley Ave, which is centrally located and has ample space for shopping and parking.

Lynn Comried, Friends Board member and co-chair of the Bling Thing planning committee, says, “We are so grateful to friends and community members who donate jewelry and accessories all year long to make this a successful and significant fund raiser year after year.”

Since its inception in 1973, Friends of Hackley Public Library has made an investment of over $1 million toward Library programs and to enhance and restore areas throughout the historic Library building and Torrent House. The group also presents the annual Charles Hackley Distinguished Lecture in the Humanities, a free community event held each spring.
