Muskegon, Michigan – Orthopaedic Associates of Muskegon (OAM) is pleased to announce they are the first orthopaedic group in West Michigan to offer three different joint replacement procedures using robotic-arm assisted technology. Eight OAM physicians are now certified to perform surgery using Stryker’s Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery System. These procedures, which include partial knee, total knee and total hip replacements, are being performed at the Muskegon Surgery Center outpatient surgery facility.

This latest advancement in joint replacement surgery is transforming the way joint replacement procedures are performed. Using a virtual 3D model, the Mako System allows surgeons to develop each patient’s surgical plan pre-operatively, creating a clear plan for how the surgeon will position the implant before entering the operating room. During surgery, the surgeon can validate that plan and make any necessary adjustment while guiding the robotic-arm to execute that plan.

“Mako Technology allows surgeons to place and align joint components with extreme precision, resulting in less post-operative pain, shorter recovery times, and better performance of the joint,” said Orthopaedic Associates of Muskegon CEO Julie Greene. “Ultimately, this is about achieving the best outcome for our patients, so they can get back to doing what they love as soon as possible.

“We are also proud of the fact that so many of our surgeons have chosen to become Mako-certified,” Greene added. “We strive to give patients choices in providers as well as treatment options. Our investment in the Mako System is another example of how people who visit our office know they’ll get the best course of treatment for their individual condition.”
