Muskegon Heights, MI, November 13, 2018-Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System will  celebrate 46 Muskegon Heights Academy students, grades 7-12, who are performing at or  above grade level on the Fall Dibels CARI (reading) and/or NWEA Math Assessment. This data  demonstrates an increase from 8% to 25% in grades 9-12 reading proficiency since the Fall  of 2017. Over the past year, MHA students have engaged in new reading and math curricula,  which has provided a universal and systematic approach to instruction. In reading content  specifically, all MHA teachers have been trained in a reading intervention program that is  designed to increase reading fluency, vocabulary knowledge, and comprehension skills.  These reading strategies are taught to all students during a specialized ROAR Advisory  period, which provides additional reading support three days a week. As a result of  student progress, these 46 students will move on to new instructional programming during  the second quarter. This additional instruction will focus on mathematics or accelerating  reading growth through challenging book clubs. MHPSAS looks forward to honoring students,  families, and team members during a special Celebration Dinner Tuesday evening.
