About MasterTag

MasterTag is a 3rd generation business founded in 1949 by Lou Schmidt, who invented the plastic horticulture tag as we now know it. Born out of a plastic fishing bobber business called MasterFloat, Lou satisfied a local grower’s need, Weesies Brothers Garden Center, for a durable plant tag. Since then, the tag quickly became the primary source of information for gardeners when shopping for plants.

MasterTag shares a common experience with its customers and has remained 100% devoted to horticulture throughout its 75-year history. Our processes and culture are committed to producing high-quality, accurate products that are proven to work. We provide growers and retailers with the tags and labels that sell plants.

In 2021, MasterTag became a wholly owned subsidiary of Avery Products Corporation. Avery Products Corporation is the world’s largest supplier of labels, specialty converted media and software solutions for short-run digital printing applications for businesses and consumers available alongside complementary products sold through distributors, mass market stores and e-commerce retailers under the Avery® brand. Avery Products, a division of CCL Industries, is based in Brea, California. Avery and all other Avery brands, product names and codes are trademarks of CCL Industries, Inc.
