Initiative aims to get more cruise ships on the Great Lakes

Gov. Rick Snyder this week helped launch an international partnership that aims to get more cruise ships to boat the Great Lakes.

 

“I am excited to bring more cruise ships to our wonderful Great Lakes so visitors can experience our fantastic shoreline communities,” Governor Rick Snyder said in a press release.

 

“Cruising on the Great Lakes is poised for major growth in the coming years, with significant economic benefits for the entire region. In 2018, our waterways saw nearly 100,000 port visits by passengers. This initiative aims to increase those numbers, which in turn, increases the amount of economic impact.”

 

It’s an initiative spearheaded by the Conference of Great Lakes St. Lawrence Governors and Premiers, a group of Canadian and U.S. leaders from around the Great Lakes aiming to grow the regional economy. Snyder chairs the group, and Travel Michigan Vice President David Lorenz will lead the new “Cruise the Great Lakes” initiative.
