We’ll feature special guest Johnathan Rand (author of the Michigan Chillers series!), and a variety of fun things and activities! Activities are all FREE to enjoy.

Green Man/May Queen Masks
Thanks to the spring rains, Beltane/May Day marks a time when the earth is getting ready for summer. The Green Man (who represents energy, vitality, and fertility), falls for the beautiful May Queen (the earth goddess whose hair is decorated with a ring of springtime flowers). It is their love that ushers in the abundance of summer. Take and Make your very own mask!

We have two four-legged reading helpers in HPL’s Youth Services!! Practice and strengthen literacy skills by reading out loud to our friendly therapy dogs who are calm, non-judgmental listeners. They’re excited to hear all the stories. and receive all the belly rubs! Please call 231-722-8014 to register for a 20-minute time slot. Ages 3-12. Free.

Live Looping Electric Violin – Performance & Demonstration

Violinist/violist, Josh Holcomb (a member of the West Michigan Symphony) will play original compositions and arrangements. Learn about how his set-up works and even join in making an original song together!

Spring is the best time to make fingerprint art! Make your favorite Spring foliage, or a delightful group of birds and butterflies. Let your imagination run wild. We will supply the stamp pads and paper, you supply the artistry. This family program is geared toward youth of all ages. Free!
LEGO Build

HPL’s LEGO bricks will be provided for building inside the library (we like to display the builds on our shelves afterwards!), but your imagination is needed! Free form LEGO bricks are always available to build at the library, but we will be offering a larger selection of guided LEGO builds for this program. Guided builds are available on a first come, first served basis. Ages 5-16. Free.

Community Access Line of the Lakeshore 211 (CALL 211) comes to Hackley Library on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00pm, giving you the opportunity to meet and talk with a community resource specialist!
CALL 211 offers help with connecting individuals to SO many resources, including information on food, housing, employment, mental health, and so much more! Speaking to CALL 211’s resource specialist is free. Check HPL’s Facebook page for any cancellations.

Bring your own device or use one of our patron computers and receive specialized one-on-one assistance from our Tech Assistant, Jim! Come with your tech questions, such as needing help with using a device, downloading our free Library Apps, or something else.

America at 250! Researching Your Revolutionary Ancestors”

This program is in partnership with the Muskegon County Genealogical Society, and is presented by Scott Norrick, Ancestral Past
2026 marks the 250-year anniversary of America‛s signing of the Declaration of Independence. This presentation will provide a deep dive into discovering and researching your revolutionary ancestors. It will cover the top resources, strategies, websites, libraries, archives, and organizations for learning more about your ancestors at our nation‛s founding. Resources and documents available at the National Archives, DAR, SAR, as well as state and local organizations will be included. The presentation will also reveal that many colonists did not support independence and supported the British/Tory cause. It is an exciting time to jump in and learn as much as you can about your revolutionary ancestors! Registration preferred. Free.
