New Adult Program Added:

Pride Plays: A History

In-person at Hackley library

Thursday, June 16 at 5:30pm

In celebration of Pride Month, enjoy an evening of scenes and monologues from some of the most influential plays and musicals in Queer Theatre history!  Listen to the steady march of social progress as actors read from works such as The Boys in the Band, The Lonely Hearts, Angels in America, Indecent, and Fun Home.

Summer Reading Program:

June 13 – August 13

Hackley Library’s Summer Reading Program is around the corner!  This year’s theme is “Oceans of Possibilities.”  The program kicks off June 13, and will run through August 13.  HPL’s Summer Reading Program is great for ALL AGES to participate in, where you can earn prizes, as well as have the chance to win additional prizes!  It’s FREE to enjoy!  For signing up, you’ll receive a bag of goodies (while supplies last)!  Find more details at hackleylibrary.org (more specifically at https://www.hackleylibrary.org/events-programs/annual-events/summer-reading/).  Free.

Oceans of Possibilities Take and Make Crafts

Available beginning Monday, June 6, and through the month

Sea creatures abound this June with our Take and Make craft kits!  We’ll have Chompy Fish kits for kids and Felt Otter kits for teens.  Check Hackley Library’s Facebook page for more details coming up.  Free.

Find a Pet! Scavenger Hunt

In-person at Hackley Library

Available through June

HPL’s Youth Services has put together a scavenger hunt for everyone!  Find all the librarians’ pets and take home a prize.  Free.

LEGO Building Day

In-person at Hackley Library

Saturday, June 18 from 12:00-2:00pm

Decorate the tops of our library bookshelves by building some awesome LEGO creations! We’ll bring the bricks – all you need to bring is your imagination.

All ages welcome!  Free.

Nerf Challenge

In-person at Smith-Ryerson Park

Monday, June 20 at 1:00pm

Players will run, dodge, and dive as they try to out-wit and out-blast the competition during NERF MobileGames.  From ‘Capture the Flag’ to ‘Eliminator’ to ‘Zombies vs. Humans,’ players will put their physical and mental skills to the test.  Ages 8 and up.  Join us at Smith-Ryerson Park for this fun NERF experience!  Free.

Sea Creatures Drawing Class

In-person at Hackley Library

Wednesday, June 22 at 2:00pm

Explore different types of sea creatures with artist Corinne Roberts.  This class is paced for kids of all ages to learn how to draw or sharpen developing skills.  Free.

Zines: Telling Your Story – What’s a Zine?

Tuesday, June 21 from 5:00-6:00pm

What in the world is a ZINE? If you have ever asked yourself this question, join us at the library on June 21st and learn the interesting history of zines, how to make them, and what you can do with them once you’ve created one. Writers, artists, photographers, poets, anyone can make a zine! We will supply the tools, you just need to come to the program and supply the creativity.

Left to Write (and Left to Write at Night!)

Tuesday, May 24 from 5:30 – 6:30pm

If you enjoy creative writing, you’ll love Left to Write, HPL’s own creative writing group.  Here you can participate in writing exercises, share your own stories, and meet other creative writers.  This group provides a low-key atmosphere for writers of all experiences, everyone is welcome!  Remember to bring a pen and paper.

You’ll have two chances to enjoy Left to Write each month.  Feel free to come to one or both, whenever you’re able to!  Free.
