HOLLAND, MICH. — A Holland publisher is launching Michigan’s first-ever coastal, regional lifestyle magazine. Group Tour Media will publish The Pike magazine’s inaugural digital edition on August 1, 2020.
The Pike magazine’s name is derived from the historic thoroughfare called the West Michigan Pike, named a Pure Michigan Byway in 2017. Today, the road is recognized as U.S. 31. Readers will discover the extraordinary people and places found along Lake Michigan’s coast and the iconic road, from Grand Beach to Mackinaw City.
“We are so proud to deliver a new publication to audiences in Chicago and along Lake Michigan’s coast, which maintains an essence and culture all of its own,” said Elly DeVries, Group Tour Media publisher. “Each issue is intended to be an escape that will transport readers to places yet experienced or worth returning to.”
A century ago, the resources of Michigan’s western and northern lakeshore region — dunes, beaches, lakes, rivers and forests — were introduced to all of America via the development of the automobile and the West Michigan Pike — the state’s first improved road.
Every coastal community has prospered from the millions of people who have visited since the early 1920s. Many thousands continue to put down roots that shape and define the Lake Michigan coast’s communities.

We want to create an insightful and exciting fresh-coast experience for our readers.”
Features and departments in The Pike will showcase stories of music and musicians; art and artisans; agriculture, food, wine and beer; coastal living; boats and boating; beach life and beach towns; dunes, trails, recreation and resorts; and assorted ways to immerse in each.
