Muskegon, MI – Greater Muskegon Economic Development (GMED) has appointed Frank Peterson as Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Kelsey Rhoda as Interim Chief Operating Officer (COO) in anticipation of the planned departure of current GMED President Marla Schneider in early January.

Frank Peterson currently serves as the Vice President of Operations for the WheelFish Group, and previously served as City Manager for the City of Muskegon from 2013 to 2022. As Interim CEO, Peterson will guide GMED through this leadership transition with a focus on strategic initiatives and facilitating the recruitment and hiring of a permanent CEO.

“I’m excited to step into this role and support GMED during this important transition,” said Frank Peterson, Interim CEO of GMED. “With a strong team already in place and a clear mission ahead, I’m confident we will maintain momentum on key projects and continue driving economic growth for the greater Muskegon community.”

Kelsey Rhoda, Program Director for the West Michigan APEX Accelerator, will assume the role of Interim COO while continuing her current duties. Rhoda will oversee daily operations, manage staff, and ensure alignment with GMED’s strategic objectives.

Current staff will remain in their respective roles, with Greg King continuing to oversee economic development initiatives and Cathy Brubaker-Clarke managing grants and community development.

“Frank and Kelsey’s combined experience and dedication to Muskegon County will position them well to lead GMED through this transition,” said Rich Houtteman, GMED Board Chair. “Their leadership will ensure the continued progress of GMED’s economic development goals.”

GMED’s Board of Directors will begin its search for a permanent President and CEO working with interim leadership.
