Frauenthal Center Announces 2022-2023 Schedule of Performances, Music and Art

MUSKEGON, MI., 2022 — The Frauenthal Center, a cultural cornerstone of downtown Muskegon and the West Michigan lakeshore, has announced their 2022-2023 season of exciting offerings including national music tours, comedy, free family movies, art exhibits and more!

 

“This is unquestionably the most exciting season ever presented by the Frauenthal in our 90+ year history” says Eric Messing, Frauenthal Center Executive Director. “Showcasing a season of diverse offerings, The Frauenthal Center certainly remains a place to experience it all.”

 

Beatles Vs. Stones – A Musical Showdown – October 7, 2022 | 7:30 pm

 

Two of the greatest bands of all time face off in a high-energy, adrenaline-pumping musical showdown. The Fab Four, represented by tribute band Abbey Road will engage in a barrage of hits against premier Rolling Stones tribute band Satisfaction. It’s a face-off you won’t want to miss! The show has been touring since 2011 and features renowned tributes Satisfaction – The International Rolling Stones Show and Abbey Road. The groups perform alternating sets of hits from the classic eras of both bands complete with authentic costuming and instrumentation before closing with a fantastic never before seen encore.

 

Tiempo Libre – October 22, 2022 | 7:30 pm

 

Three-time Grammy-nominated Afro-Caribbean music group Tiempo Libre is one of the hottest Latin bands today. Equally at home in concert halls, jazz clubs, festival stages and dance venues, Tiempo Libre is celebrated for its sophisticated tropical music featuring an irresistible,

 

exhilarating mix of jazz harmonies, contemporary sonorities and seductive Latin rhythms. This presentation is made possible by the Lawrence and Violet Collins Music Fund.

 

Jim Belushi & The Board of Comedy – October 29, 2022 | 7:30 pm

 

With more than thirty years of experience and an alumnus of “Saturday Night Live” and Chicago’s famed Second City, JIM BELUSHI is now bringing to the stage an improvised comedy sketch show featuring members of the Board of Comedy.

 

Belushi starred on the ABC hit comedy “According to Jim,” on which he also served as executive producer, music composer and director. After wrapping 182 episodes for its eighth and final season, the family favorite series also hit a milestone when it launched into off-net syndication in 2007. A favorite of film, television and stage audiences, Belushi is one of the great leading character actors equally at home in drama and comedy, and a gifted performer who can also hold a room as front man of a rhythm and blues band. Accompanying Belushi are Megan Grano, Larry Joe Campbell and Joshua Funk, all of whom are classically trained professional improvisers who tour regularly nationwide.

 

The Nutcracker – December 17, 2022 | 3:00 pm

 

Join Clara and her magical friends as the West Michigan Youth Ballet brings THE NUTCRACKER to the beautiful Frauenthal Theater for a family holiday experience to remember! The West Michigan Youth Ballet is comprised of young dancers from the West Michigan area. Don’t miss this holiday tradition!

 

Black Violin – February 26, 2023 | 7:30 pm

 

Black Violin is composed of classically trained violist and violinist Wil Baptiste and Kev Marcus who combine their classical training and hip-hop influences to create a distinctive multi-genre sound that is often described as “classical boom” to overcome stereotypes and encourage people of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds to join together to break down cultural barriers. Their most recent release, Take the Stairs, was nominated for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album Grammy.

 

Detroit Public Theatre’s DETROIT ’67 a play by Dominique Morisseau – March 9-11, 2023

 

In this thought-provoking and timely masterpiece, set in Detroit in 1967, Motown has hit its groove and the Poindexter siblings, Chelle and Lank, are making ends meet by hosting parties

 

in their basement. However, Lank and his friend Sly have dreams beyond the cellar shindigs. When Lank brings home a mysterious white woman, the family’s simmering disagreements explode—as the streets erupt.

 

This production comes direct to Muskegon produced by Detroit Public Theater (DPT). Dominique Morisseau serves as DPT’s Executive Artistic Producer, is a native Detroit playwright of international acclaim, the author of two plays on Broadway this season alone, and is a MacArthur Genius Award Winner.

 

Free Family Movie Day Series: This monthly series presents a wonderful opportunity for families to experience the Frauenthal Center together or for those who are simply looking for a free and fun afternoon. Sundays at 3 pm. No ticket required!

2023 Alley Door Club Series

 

Join us in our 17th season of live music, dancing and full cash bar. Doors open at 6pm. Band plays 7-10pm with $1 off all drinks during happy hour from 6-7pm. This series takes place in our 3rd floor Ballroom located in the Hilt Building.

Art Gallery Exhibits

 

The Reception Gallery showcases a variety of art from local and regional artists. Admission is FREE and exhibits change on a regular basis with selected pieces available for purchase. The Reception Gallery is located on the 2nd floor of the Hilt Building within the Frauenthal Center and is open Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm with extended hours on show nights.

 

August & September 2022 – Valentina Gregorieva. A Kazakhstan/American artist who creates watercolor landscapes and still life’s.

 

October & November 2022 – Wayne Pierce. Colorful and textured surfaces in photography.

 

December 2022 & January 2023 Mary Jane Pories. Semi-abstracted and abstracted people, landscapes in oil.

 

February 2023 – Franciscan Artists. The Franciscan Artists will bring a variety of artworks in different mediums and styles.

 

March 2023 – Muskegon Showcase. The Muskegon Showcase brings students work in the Muskegon area to the Reception Gallery.

 

April & May 2023 – Janine Zomermaad. Abstract paintings in acrylic.

 

June & July 2023 – Henry Droski. Black and white photography of landscapes.
