Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque Announces Closure of Spring Lake Location; Muskegon Location to Remain Open
Spring Lake, MI — Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque has announced the upcoming closure of its Spring Lake location following careful consideration by the Hissom family, owners of the locally loved barbeque restaurant.
“After careful consideration, our family has made the difficult decision to close our Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque location in Spring Lake,” said owner Judy Hissom. “This decision did not come easily. We have truly enjoyed being part of the Spring Lake community and have loved the building and its beautiful waterfront location.”
Despite strong community support, the Spring Lake location has faced ongoing financial challenges. “Unfortunately, sales have not been sufficient to support continued operations at this location,” Hissom explained. “The combination of underperformance and high overhead costs has made it financially impossible for us to remain open in Spring Lake.”
The final day of operation for Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque in Spring Lake will be Sunday, February 8, 2026. Staff members have been given two weeks’ notice, and the Hissom family encourages customers to stop in during the remaining weeks to enjoy a meal and support the team as they transition to new opportunities.
Importantly, Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque in Muskegon is open and will remain fully operational, continuing to offer dine-in, takeout, and catering services. Customers can still enjoy the restaurant’s signature barbeque at the Muskegon location. In addition, the family’s sister restaurant, The Early Owl, will also remain open and continue to serve guests as usual.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received from the community,” said Hissom. “Our family remains committed to serving the area, and we look forward to welcoming guests at our Muskegon location and continuing to share the barbeque they know and love.”
