DR. ALVEDA KING, NIECE OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR, TO SPEAK IN MUSKEGON ON: “REDEEMING THE DREAM: LIFE. WORTH DEFENDING”

 

Nationally known speaker, Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and daughter of the late civil rights activist, Rev. A.D. King and his wife Naomi Barber King will be the keynote speaker for an educational, humanitarian and citywide event hosted by Muskegon Pregnancy Services, Thursday, October 4, 2018, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the Frauenthal Center for Performing Arts in Muskegon MI.

 

The community is invited to hear her speak on the topic: “Redeeming the Dream: Life. Worth Defending.” Ticket information is through Frauethal.org and Startickets.com. (Flyer attached).

 

The purpose of the event is to bring a cross-cultural, cross-denominational and collaborative effort to promote truth and life. Dr. Alveda King has been part of, and lived through the civil rights events with her family and the nation. Her family home in Birmingham, Alabama was bombed, as was her father’s church office in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. King, herself, was jailed in the Open Housing Movement.

 

Currently, Dr. King serves as a Pastoral Associate and Director of Civil Rights for the Unborn, the African-American Outreach for Priests for Life and Gospel of Life Ministries. Dr. King is a passionate advocate for the pre-born. She is a voice for the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, sharing her testimony of two abortions, God’s forgiveness, and healing. Dr. King sees the pro-life movement as a continuation of the civil rights struggle.

 

Muskegon Pregnancy Services (MPS) is honored to bring Dr. King to the community. To enhance the educational aspect; a student essay contest called: “Youth For Truth and Life” will culminate at the Oct 4th event. (Flyer attached). MPS is a pregnancy help center caring for women in Muskegon County for over 33 years. MPS provides free services including: pregnancy testing, limited ultrasound scans, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases/ infections (STDs/STIs) for both women and men, needed baby supplies, and parenting resources through their LifePlan Program. MPS also provides Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) education for schools and youth groups. Compassionate MPS staff and volunteers, have served over 500 individuals in 2017 alone – helping women and men know the facts about pregnancy, abortion and other options, so they could make informed decisions. MPS is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, funded by individual donor partners, businesses, and churches in the area.
