Volunteer registration now open for Muskegon County’s largest day of service, beginning with breakfast at Camp Pinewood and continuing with projects across the region.

Muskegon, MI (August 19, 2025) — United Way of the Lakeshore (United Way) invites community members to roll up their sleeves for Muskegon County’s largest day of service, Day of Caring, taking place on Friday, September 5, 2025.

The day will kick off with a volunteer breakfast at Camp Pinewood in Twin Lake, where hundreds of volunteers will gather before heading out to complete projects across the county. Teams of coworkers, friends, families, and individuals will take part in service opportunities ranging from painting, landscaping, and trail work to sorting donations, organizing supplies, and supporting local nonprofits. There are opportunities for half or full day projects. Select projects will also take place on-site at Camp Pinewood, allowing volunteers to experience the impact of service in a camp setting.

Highlights of the day include:

  • A variety of indoor and outdoor service projects across Muskegon County
  • Complimentary Day of Caring t-shirts for all registered volunteers
  • Breakfast and Campaign Kick-Off, beginning at 8:00 AM at Camp Pinewood
  • Tools and supplies provided at each project site
  • Lunch provided at each site
  • An inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for volunteers of all ages and experience levels

“Day of Caring is one of my favorite days of the year,” said Sara Sherwood, Community Engagement Coordinator at United Way of the Lakeshore. “It’s incredible to see hundreds of volunteers working side by side to support our neighbors, schools, parks, and nonprofits. Every person who participates is helping us create a stronger Muskegon County.”

Day of Caring not only provides hands-on help throughout the county but also serves as the official launch of United Way’s annual campaign, inspiring the community to come together around a shared vision of improving lives in Muskegon County.

“Day of Caring is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together,” said Lisa Tyler, President & CEO of United Way of the Lakeshore. “This event connects people across Muskegon County to meaningful service, and the impact lasts far beyond a single day. It strengthens our community, our partnerships, and our hope for the future.”

United Way extends its gratitude to Presenting Sponsor DTE Foundation and Muskegon County Sponsor Cannon Muskegon for their generous support in making this day of service possible. The spirit of service will continue beyond Muskegon County, with additional Day of Caring events scheduled in Newaygo County on Friday, September 12, and in Oceana County on Friday, September 19. Volunteers in those communities are also encouraged to participate and make a difference close to home.

Volunteer registration is open now, and community members are encouraged to sign up as individuals or as part of a team. For more information and to register, visit: https://unitedwaylakeshore.org/day-caring.
