Community Choice Credit Union to Give Away 400 Backpacks

Community News |Jul 23, 2019|2 min read

Community Choice Credit Union will be giving away a free backpack and school supplies to 400 students on August 22, 2019, at their Muskegon Member Center located at 2735 Estes Street.

The backpack giveaway is just one element of this family-friendly event. Between 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., families are invited to enjoy a free meal from the JP’s food truck, cotton candy cones from Hey Sugar Cotton Candy along with free face painting, games and a craft activity!

On July 19, in preparation for the event, each of Community Choice’s 20 locations across the state will begin collecting classroom supplies. All collected supplies will be distributed among teachers in the community with the intention of alleviating the financial burden of the back to school season for both teachers and families. “These giveaway events are so important,” says Jeremy Cybulski, Community Engagement Manager, “Every child deserves to have the supplies necessary to focus on learning. Being able to help offset the costs to make that happen, for both parents and teachers, is extremely rewarding. We see it as paying it forward for everyone in the community.”

For the 2019-2020 school year, teachers are requesting assistance in stocking their classroom with the following supplies: disinfectant wipes, dry erase markers (variety of colors), granola bars, facial tissue, pencils, permanent markers, and self-sealing plastic bags (quart size). Anyone interested in supporting teachers with a donation is invited to drop off items at any Community Choice location.

This family fun day is one of five backpack giveaways events Community Choice will be hosting this summer. Additional family events will take place in Jackson, Hillsdale, Warren, and Holland.
