MUSKEGON: Oakridge junior Serena Fairbrother won a $25 gift card to Cinema Carousel for her submission to the Domestic Violence Awareness Poster Contest hosted by Every Woman’s Place in Muskegon. Serena, a Graphic Production Technologies student at the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center (MACTC), and several of her classmates participated in the contest.

Students were asked to illustrate their interpretation of domestic or dating violence. All posters were to be in color, include a message about stopping domestic violence, and fit an 8.5 by 11-inch format. This is the fourth year in a row an MACTC student has won.

“Drawing is my passion,” shared Serena. She added that she had several concepts in mind for the poster. With guidance from her instructors, she landed on the winning design.

Every Woman’s Place provides emergency shelter for victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. All services are free of charge to survivors and their children. For more information visit www.everywomansplace.org.
