CAD/Drafting Contest Winners Announced

 The 30th Annual Muskegon Community College CAD/Drafting Contest attracted 70 students from six schools to the Muskegon Community College campus on Friday, Dec. 2.

 

The event, coordinated by MCC Instructor Kathleen Liefer, is sponsored by American Foundry Society and many local business and educational institutions. Prizes were awarded to the top finishers in four divisions. This year’s winners are:

 

Division 1:  Beginning Sketching

For this division, the students were given a part that was printed on our 3D printer.  They had to measure the part and then create a pencil sketch of that part.

  • 1st Place – Becca VanderSloot, Hudsonville Unity Christian High School
  • 2nd Place – Keaton Rhoades, Fruitport High School
  • 3rd Place – Zackary VanDyke, Hudsonville Unity Christian High School
  • Honorable Mention – Ben Mulder, Holland Christian High School
  • Honorable Mention – Trevor Evenhouse, Holland Christian High School
  • Plaque – Mr. Dave Vruwink, Hudsonville Unity Christian High School

Division 2:  Beginning 2D AutoCAD 2017

This division is very similar to Division 1 in terms of the drawing complexity, except in Division 2 the students had to create their drawings using AutoCAD (2D).

  • 1st Place – Noah Palmer, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center
  • 2nd Place – Jordan Gilbert, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center
  • 3rd Place – Dan Pavlich, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center
  • Honorable Mention – Simon Johnson, Fruitport High School
  • Honorable Mention – Anthony Lock, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center
  • Plaque – Mr. Troy Foster, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center

Division 3:  3D Solid Modeling

For this division, the students were given a very complex drawing problem.  They had to create a solid model of the part using AutoCAD 2017 3D (Solid Modeler), Inventor 2017 or SolidWorks 2016.

  • 1st Place – Eddie Leonard, Fruitport High School
  • 2nd Place – Chase Vollmer, Fruitport High School
  • 3rd Place – Bodi Pratt, Newaygo Tech Center
  • Honorable Mention – Adam Brunsting, Hudsonville Unity Christian High School
  • Honorable Mention – Gretchen Spruit, Holland Christian High School
  • Plaque – Ms. Kathy Steudle-Schwander, Fruitport High School

Division 4:  3D Solid Modeling/Assembly/Drawing

In Division 4, students were asked to complete a project.  They had to model several parts, assemble those parts and create an assembly drawing with multiple views, balloons and a complete bill of material using AutoCAD 2017 3D (Solid Modeler), Inventor 2017 or SolidWorks 2016.

  • 1st Place – Andrew Harloff, Fruitport High School
  • 2nd Place – Kaylee Meyer, Fruitport High School
  • 3rd Place – Jacob Feenstra, Hudsonville Unity Christian High School
  • Honorable Mention – Alex Smith, Fruitport High School
  • Honorable Mention – Collin Nielsen, Newaygo Tech Center
  • Plaque – Ms. Kathy Steudle-Schwander, Fruitport High School

Volunteer for the Lakeshore Art Festival

A unique blend of arts, crafts, music, food and fun along the shoreline in historic Downtown Muskegon. More than 300 artists and crafters will be showcased with fine art in the park, crafts, children’s activities and Michigan food market – all wrapped up in a huge downtown street party atmosphere!   Come out and join us on July 6th,  and July 7th, 2018.
