Lake Michigan Credit Union Ranked In Top 100 Healthiest Credit Unions In America

July 9, 2015 -- Every year DepositAccounts creates a list of the top 200 Healthiest Banks and Credit Unions throughtout the country, and this year, the Lake Michigan Credit Union placed 62th on that list. This is the second consecutive year that the Lake Michigan Credit Union has managed this accomplisment, making it one out of only 66 credit unions to complete this feat out of the over 6,000 credit unions nationwide.

Teachers learn new approach for teaching high school science

July 1, 2015  -- This summer 18 Muskegon County high school physics, biology, and chemistry teachers will join teachers from across the state in learning a new way to engage their students with a teaching concept called Modeling Instruction, and perhaps improving their grades at the same time. One of the first chemistry sessions held this year, hosted by the MAISD Regional Mathematics and Science Center, started at Fruitport High School on June 22, concluding on July 10.

RON JENKINS NAMED ABA DIVISION CHAIRMAN

June 22, 2015 -- The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.americanbasketballassociation.org today announced that Ron Jenkins, co-owner/head coach of the West Michigan Lake Hawks has been named the Division Chairman of the league's North Central Division. "Ron has shown great leadership since the day he joined the ABA," stated ABA co-founder Joe Newman. "On the court, he has an excellent team; off the court, he runs the Lake Hawks professionally and has established great relationships with all of the teams in the NC Division."

Countywide education leader with national accolades to retire

June 19, 2015 -- Recently named a “Leader to Learn From” by Education Week, Kathy Fortino will soon retire from her position as Muskegon Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) Associate Superintendent for Special Education and Early Childhood Services. In her role at the MAISD, Fortino also oversees educational programming for the countywide Juvenile Transition Center and You Turn Program for expelled students.
