Volunteers needed for United Way of the Lakeshore 2015 Day of Caring

August 24, 2015 -- United Way of the Lakeshore’s 2015 Day of Caring will be in support of beautification efforts in the community on Friday, September 11.

Hundreds of volunteers are needed for sites along Seaway Drive and Sherman Boulevard refreshing landscapes by planting trees, trimming or removing old growth, helping to beautify neighborhoods that have been affected by blight, and erecting a welcome sign on a busy corridor into Muskegon Heights.

BAKER COLLEGE DEAN LEADS ACADEMIC GROUP TO INTERNATIONAL ‘OUTSTANDING’ DESIGNATION

August 18, 2015 -- Graduate Studies dean of online information systems program completes one-year post as chair of worldwide society.

Na “Lina” Li, Ph.D., a dean for Baker College Center for Graduate Studies, chaired a worldwide special interest group (SIG) for information systems professionals that was designated an “Outstanding SIG for 2014” by the Association for Information Systems (AIS). The award-winning group is the SIG on Human-Computer Interaction (SIGHCI). It has more than 320 members from nearly 50 countries on six continents.

350+ local educators go back to school early to study technology integration

August 17, 2015 -- Over 350 educators will “Learn on the Lakeshore” at Muskegon Community College Stevenson Center on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Teachers will become students in over 90 breakout sessions all centered on integrating technology into the classroom. The sessions are taught by other expert teachers and consultants experiencing success with technology tools.

Orchard View Schools Awarded AdvancED School System Accreditation

August 10, 2015 -- Jim Nielsen announced today that Orchard View Schools was granted AdvancED School System Accreditation from the AdvancED Accreditation Commission, the national commission that confers the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) accreditation seal. This means that the system and all of its schools are accredited, and that Orchard View Schools is recognized across the nation as a quality school system.

A long overdue project is finally completed at the USS Silversides Submarine Museum In Muskegon, Michigan

August 10, 2015 -- The Board and staff of the USS Silversides Submarine Museum in Muskegon, Michigan is proud to announce completion of the World War II Lost Submariners Memorial and the formal dedication on September 2, 2015. The Museum board began planning the Memorial over 15 years ago; when the USS Silversides was permanently moored in the Muskegon Channel. Since that time the museum has focused its efforts on preserving the USS Silversides and the prohibition era Coast Guard Cutter McLane as well as creating a 15,000 square foot museum.
