April 1, 2015 - Local Inventors Networks Host ‘Shark Tank’-Type Competition in Muskegon and Grand Rapids Two local chapters of the Michigan Inventors Coalition (MIC), will conduct local “Spin, Pitch & Sell” competitions in West Michigan before grabbing center stage with a final “Spin, Pitch & Sell” competition at the MIC Annual Expo in September at Michigan State University. "Spin, Pitch & Sell" is a competition in which inventors, entrepreneurs and business people present their inventions or business plans in order to get advice and/or win start-up capital for their ideas.
March 30, 2015 - On April 2, 2015, over 2,000 school children in Muskegon County will celebrate their success as peer mentors by wearing blue clothing and stickers that say “Light It Up Blue.” The students from elementary schools in Fruitport, Muskegon, Oakridge, and Reeths-Puffer have been selected and trained for the job of assisting students who face the daily challenges of a life touched by Autism, or one of the other disorders along what is known today as the Autism Spectrum.

March 26, 2015 - Over 2,950 first through sixth grade students from Calvary Christian, Fruitport, Hesperia, Holton, MAISD Wesley School, Mona Shores, Montague, Muskegon, Muskegon Catholic Central, North Muskegon, Oakridge, Orchard View, Ravenna, Reeths-Puffer, Timberland Academy, Whitehall, and White Cloud schools will enjoy “The Billy Goats Gruff” performance by the Indianapolis Opera Ensemble at the historic Frauenthal Theater on March 30 and 31, 2015. The shows will begin at 10:00 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m. both days.
March 26, 2015 - On May 6, 2015, high school students Xavier Baron (Oakridge), Matthew Visger (Montague), and Jailon Jamison (Fruitport) will travel to Anaheim, California to contend with their peers--the brightest and most skilled computer whizzes in the nation at the National Business Professionals of America Leadership Competition.
The Muskegon Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) is now preparing for its biennial election. Those desiring a seat on the MAISD Board of Education must deliver an affidavit of identity, nominating petitions signed by a minimum of 40 electors, or a nonrefundable fee of $100 to the Muskegon County Clerk’s office no later than May 4, 2015. On June 1, 2015, the 11 constituent districts will cast their ballots to fill one open seat.
March 26, 2015 - Thursday, March 26, 201, at 8:15 a.m. - 10:25 a.m. and again at 11:45 a.m. - 2:05 p.m. representatives from 26 local police, fire, courts, corrections, and emergency personnel, as well as college and military representatives, will connect with more than 100 students during the first ever Criminal Justice Career Day taking place at the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center (MACTC).
