$25,000 grant to help local schools improve college access efforts

October 16, 2014 - Students from Montague, Muskegon, Ravenna and Whitehall High Schools will soon benefit from a new $25,000 grant from the Michigan College Access Network (MCAN). Muskegon Opportunity will receive the grant funding to further its work in helping students and their families pursue post-secondary education that includes college, licensing, and other certifications.

Teens perform seat belt checks on peers as part of national contest

October 16, 2014 - This morning students in Karen Reynolds’ Criminal Justice class met their peers in the parking lot of the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center to perform seat belt safety checks. The checks were the first step in a two-week countywide campaign to increase the use of seat belts among teens. The campaign is part of the National Organization for Youth Safety Seat Belts Save Challenge.

2nd Annual Family Friendly MSU vs. U of M Tailgate Benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lakeshore

October 16, 2014 - Football fans are invited to watch the upcoming 104th match-up of the University of Michigan and Michigan State football teams aboard the WWII USS LST-393 Veteran’s Museum moored in the Harbor of Muskegon Lake in downtown Muskegon on Saturday October 25th. This family friendly event will benefit the children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lakeshore. Kickoff is at 3:30pm and doors will open to the public at 3pm.

October 6, 2014--- On Saturday, October 25, 2014, the Knowsmoke Coalition will be hosting a zombie walk in downtown Muskegon to bring awareness to youth about the risks of addiction and the health hazards associated with tobacco use.
