December 18, 2014 - Students at the Culinary Institute of Michigan, a division of Baker College of Muskegon, have baked up and rolled out their version of the Sugar Bowl this year, but it’s not on January 1, and there isn’t an opponent.
December 17, 2014 - CARF International announced that Preferred Employment & Living Supports (PELS) has been accredited for a period of three years for its Living Supports and Employment Supports programs. This is the first accreditation that the international accrediting body, The Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), has awarded to PELS.
December 18, 2014 - Baker College of Muskegon students Micaela Ontiveros and Tracy Stremus won first and third place, respectively, at the Emerge Elevator Pitch Competition for high school and college students on Thursday, Dec. 11. Ontiveros was awarded $1,000, and Stremus received $500. They will use the prize money to start the businesses that they pitched in the competition.
December 18, 2014 - on Friday, January 23, 2015, the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center (MACTC) will host its First Annual Modern Manufacturing Day. The goal of this event is to help bridge the gap between schools and manufacturing. Locally and nationally, manufacturing employers are reporting a skilled labor shortage. This event will help employers connect with future generations and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the industry. So far twelve employers are signed up to participate.
December 17, 2014 - The Silversides Museum will be open during the holidays with the exception of December 25/25 and December 31/January 1. Hours are 10 am until 4 pm Sunday thru Thursday and 10 am until 5:30 pm on Friday and Saturday. The “Buy one, get one free” admission price is good for the dates of December 16 thru December 30, 2014 and January 2-4, 2015.
December 15, 2014 - Baker College of Muskegon continues to enroll students for the 2015 winter quarter. Classes begin Monday, Jan. 12, with registration continuing through the first week of classes. Students have the flexibility to take courses on ground at the Muskegon campus or a combination of on ground and online.
December 16, 2014 - Beginning last week and stretching into tomorrow, 1,400 high school sophomores from throughout Muskegon County are sampling three courses each at the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center (MACTC). In just two months, these students will be planning next year’s school schedules and will decide if a hands-on career and technical education program with college credit options is right for them.
December 11, 2014 - The Baker College of Muskegon Rotaract Club and early childhood education program have teamed up to create a free, community program that offers fun activities for families with children aged up to 36 months to build emergent reading skills. The program supports the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) Read Early. Read Often. initiative that encourages parents to read to their children.
December 9, 2014 - Over 40 Internet, Network, and Security Technologies (INST) students at the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center (MACTC) recently completed the first round of a three-part series of online tests for the SANS Cyber Aces Competition. Students will take the second and third tests in March or June 2015. Judges will then invite the top 250 performers in the nation to compete in an online championship in late June 2015.
