The Muskegon Chamber made a commitment to being innovative in its programming over 10 years ago. This started with the formation of a Technology Committee long before the trend swept the country. The first project of this committee was to advocate for the state of Michigan for an Alternative and Renewable Energy Research Center.  That resulted in the building of the Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Research Center managed by Grand Valley State University. Muskegon is also home to one of only a dozen Cafe Scientifique groups in the world. Local inventors can get assistance and resources with implementing their ideas from the Muskegon Inventors Network.

The Technology Committee promoted use of technology in business when and wherever possible. They held technology training for members and advocated for WiFi in Muskegon.  

The Muskegon Chamber has been recognized by the American Association of Chamber Executives for its innovative communications programming. Muskegon was the first chamber in the nation to produce and communicate to its members through podcasts. This project was made possible by generous chamber member business, Qonverge.   

The Muskegon Chamber was recognized as 2006 Outstanding Chamber of the Year in the state of Michigan for innovative programing in a variety of areas.  

The newest chamber innovations include the Economic Survival Tool Kit CD and the monthly "Muskegon Market Report".
