ACTION ALERT!

Stop Asian Carp From Infesting the Great Lakes

Earlier this month, Attorney General Mike Cox launched www.StopAsianCarp.com, an online petition enabling you, your friends and family members across the Great Lakes region to help convince federal and local authorities responsible for carp infested waters to close the locks connecting them with Lake Michigan, protecting the region's $7 billion fishing industry and over 800,000 Michigan jobs connected to the health of the Great Lakes.

Will you sign the petition today at www.StopAsianCarp.com?

According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, eDNA carp evidence was discovered last week in Lake Michigan, well beyond electric barriers designed to keep the invasive species away.

Leaders across Michigan are united in this fight, including a bi-partisan effort on the part of the entire Michigan Congressional delegation. Members of Congress like Peter Hoekstra, Dave Camp, Candice Miller and Vern Ehlers are leading the way in the House while Senators Stabenow and Levin have helped provide the Obama administration all the tools Washington needs to help, although no action has taken place.

The Corps of Engineers has admitted that allowing Asian carp into the Great Lakes would be an "ecological and economic disaster," yet the Obama administration and Illinois officials continue to oppose our efforts to protect the billions in economic activity and hundreds-of-thousands of local jobs from the Asian carp, an aggressive invasive species that could quickly devastate the economy and the ecology of the Great Lakes.

Since Cox filed suit on December 21, 2009, the states of Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and the Province of Ontario have also rallied around Michigan's effort to save the Lakes and the jobs they support, but still leaders in Washington D.C. and Illinois won't listen.

Please visit www.StopAsianCarp.com to learn more about this imminent crisis and join us as we fight to protect the Great Lakes and thousands of Michigan jobs from the biological threat known as Asian carp. If we don't protect the Great Lakes today, we won't have another chance tomorrow.
